For this reason I will not be negligent to remind you always of these things, though you know and are established in the present truth.

Peter 1:12
As
Peter nears the end of his life he is determined to keep reminding believers of
the importance of the basics of the Christian life. It's easy to become
careless or indifferent and forget what is truly important in life. The truth
of our redemption can lose its grip on us. We can forget that the Christian
life is all about Jesus and the undeserved, unearned favor He lavishes upon us. We can get shortsighted and see only
ourselves instead of God. Peter is saying, I know you know these things but I
want to bring them to your memory again.
Peter
wanted to stir up their mind so they would remember the word of God. The more we know God, the more we experience
the grace and peace of God. As we gain knowledge of God, His power energizes us
to live holy lives. It is by His divine power that we are given everything we
need for living a godly life. And we receive all of this by coming to know Him
through His word. May God’s “grace and peace be multiplied to you in the
knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord (2 Peter 1:2)”.
